Domestic Groove: ARIO BAYU

Ario Bayu 1

What music are you into at the moment?
Well, I think I’m pretty eclectic with my music taste but pretty much loyal to my favourite artists. Since high school I’ve been influenced by punk rock, ska and reggae. I’m still very much into them till now. But at the mo’ jazz instrumentals especially guitar instrumentals is what I’m into right now. Soothes the mind some what. The likes of Joe Pass, Tal Farlow. Great guitarists.

What was the first record you bought—any interesting story about it?
I think my very first album that I ever bought was a punk compilation called Punk-O-Rama by Epitaph Records. And I think I stole 15 bucks from my dad’s wallet to buy it. I still have the cd, but it’s all scratched up.

What is your all-time favourite album? Why?
So far, Rx Bandits’ The Resignation. I love this album. Their music’s energetic. I’m also energetic. I could play it when ever. It has messages in the lyrics and perspectives that I could relate to. It keeps my grounded in a city like Jakarta.

What was the worst record you ever purchased?
Burger King compilation… Exactly. I think my mind was controlled at that time by some capitalist device that Burger King was working on, whilst ordering my meal… I was 13. Hahaha…

Who do you want to be, other than yourself, next time you reincarnate?
Hmmmm fun question.. I maybe would like to be a pro skydiver and base jumper. Tried sky diving last year, and I pissed my pants doing it. Best 45 seconds of my life. I guess; that would be pretty wicked doing it every day.

What song/album do you choose to start your weekend?
Depends on what type of a weekend I’m having. If it’s a biking one, usually complimented with a bit of punk. Suicidal Tendencies – Freedumb a good jolt to the heart.

And song/album you choose to end your weekend
I would listen to Elvis Costello’s North, a good album to reminisce on things.
