John Varvatos credits his early obsession with rock ‘n’ roll as the catalyst for his interest in fashion.

In April 2008 John Varvatos opened his fashion boutique at 315 Bowery, Manhattan, New York City—which was CBGB’s former space. He retains most of the legacies of the underground club: rock and roll stickers on the walls, the graffiti at the toilets was preserved, as were some playbills, found behind a wall, from shows at the club’s 10th anniversary in 1983.

Music is also central to John Varvatos’ philanthropic efforts, including the Save the Music Foundation and an annual Stuart House benefit

In 2001, John Varvatos and Converse formed a partnership to create a line of high end sneakers.

Rudolf Dethu

Music journalist, writer, radio DJ, socio-political activist, creative industry leader, and a qualified librarian, Rudolf Dethu is heavily under the influence of the punk rock philosophy. Often tagged as this country’s version of Malcolm McLaren—or as Rolling Stone Indonesia put it ‘the grand master of music propaganda’—a name based on his successes when managing Bali’s two favourite bands, Superman Is Dead and Navicula, both who have become two of the nation’s biggest rock bands.
