Today, 35 years ago, Wham! had their first UK No.1 with ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go Go”, the main single of their second album, Make It Big.

Written and produced by George Michael, one half of the duo. Inspiration for the song was a scribbled note left by his Wham! partner Andrew Ridgeley for Andrew’s parents, originally intended to read “wake me up before you go” but with “up” accidentally written twice, so Ridgeley wrote “go” twice on purpose.

The oversized message t-shirts that George and Andrew wearing (“CHOOSE LIFE”) created by Katharine Hamnett, starting a craze covered in the 2002 VH1 series I Love the 80s.

Who did the same mistake as me? The song opening, I thought it said “You turn the jukebox, you turn the jukebox ….” I discovered years later that it actually says “Jitterbug, jitterbug …”

Wake me up before Monday comes comes!
