Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel. Lo-fi Dylan. I think I played this song, “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea”, once or twice during my first radio show, Alternative Airplay, 1998-2000.

I don’t think many—or maybe no one—really liked it at that time. Me, too. Hehe. Wasn’t really into NMH back then. I just played it because I was so curious how they created quite a big buzz in the indie scene in the late 90s.

No, love at first sight doesn’t last. Doesn’t last long. True love is actually love at second sight. Come closer, let me kiss you, Jeff.

Rudolf Dethu

Music journalist, writer, radio DJ, socio-political activist, creative industry leader, and a qualified librarian, Rudolf Dethu is heavily under the influence of the punk rock philosophy. Often tagged as this country’s version of Malcolm McLaren—or as Rolling Stone Indonesia put it ‘the grand master of music propaganda’—a name based on his successes when managing Bali’s two favourite bands, Superman Is Dead and Navicula, both who have become two of the nation’s biggest rock bands.
