DEPECHE MODE – JUDAS

“Judas”, from Depeche Mode’s Songs of Faith and Devotion (1993), caught my attention a bit late. It took me a while to embrace it. But then once it got stuck on you, it kinda got stuck forever.

PETER WOLF: 74 YEARS HOWLING

Peter Wolf turned 74 today. He was pretty popular here in Indonesia back in the early 80s via “Centerfold”, “Freeze-Frame” and “Love Stinks” with the band he fronted, the J. Geils Band.

LENE LOVICH: LUCKY NUMBER

On this date, 41 years ago, Lene Lovich re-released “Lucky Number”. Originally released as a B-side for Lovich’s cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now”, the song was re-released on 26 January 1979 as an A-side and became the lead single of her debut studio album Stateless. “Lucky Number” became a defining song and made her a leading figure of the new wave genre.

DEPECHE MODE TO BE INDUCTED INTO ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

Depeche Mode are to be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2020. This was DM’s third time being nominated since becoming eligible back in 2006. The band had earlier received nominations for both the 2017 and 2018 classes.

“Uh-Oh, Love Comes to Town” is one of the most consequential songs that introduced me to the synthesizer-heavy + glam fashion x nervous and nerdy personas = New Wave.⁣

STUART ADAMSON’S DRINK-SOAKED FINAL DAYS

Today, 18 years ago, Stuart Adamson was found dead in Hawaii a month after disappearing from his home. The lead singer of Big Country’s body was found in a closet in his room at the Best Western Plaza Hotel in Honolulu.

THOMAS DOLBY’S JOIE DE VIVRE

Thomas Dolby turned 61 today. The English musician, producer, entrepreneur and teacher; came to prominence in the 1980s, releasing hit singles including “She Blinded Me with Science” and “Hyperactive!”.
