Been listening to these Swedish absurdists religiously after a close friend introduced me to them.

An unapologetically raw sextet comprised of classically trained jazz musicians, karaoke loving tattoo artists and seasoned hardcore scene veterans, churning out spastic, pulsating sounds from the sub levels of contemporary rock music—a bellowing, unstoppable force majeure of latter-day punk, PTSD disco and synthetically enhanced kraut. Smooth operators and riot grrrls, please welcome: Viagra Boys!

The frontman, Sebastian Murphy, he’s like half Iggy Pop half Hank Williams and is known for his intense, gravelly vocals and dynamic stage presence (his voice and ‘tude remind me a bit of July Talk’s Peter Dreimanis). Murphy’s lyrics often delve into dark and satirical territories, offering a biting commentary on societal norms.

The video up above, Viagra Boys performing live the lead single from their debut album Street Worms released in 2018, “Sports”. The song itself has become an anthem due to its repetitive nature, hypnotic rhythms, and tongue-in-cheek commentary on macho culture.
