Rumah Sanur Creative Hub is different things to many different people—a space to learn, share & showcase creativity | a centre for collaboration for makers/thinkers/artists/innovators from across Indonesia & around the world | a home away from home | a place to connect with new people or old friends.

Opening in mid-2015, the vision for Rumah Sanur was to foster Indonesian creatives, to be a base for local communities and to facilitate collaborations with people from across Indonesia and around the world.

Over the last 5 years, Rumah Sanur has done just this—yearly the space has welcomed over 32,000 people through its doors, held 450 events per year and workshops for over 6,000 attendees annually. It has partnered with over 200 organisations over the years and delivered specialist programs like MASABOCA Design Bootcamp, Olah Limbah Reka Kreasi (Creative Upcycling) and the Differently Abled Workshops—aimed at upskilling the disability community. Rumah Sanur is one the only art spaces in Bali that has disability-friendly facilities.

A lot of people have been part of Rumah Sanur’s story and have made it what it is today. Rumah Sanur’s founders Ayip Budiman, Roberto Aria Putra and William Sutioso had a vision for what this space could be, but it was these communities that brought this vision to life. It was the people that turned the space into something special.

Devastatingly, on the 8th of March this year we lost one of our co-founders, Ayip Budiman. Ayip was a force throughout Indonesia and visionary for what the creative sectors in Indonesia could achieve. His passing left a giant hole not only in our community but across Indonesia.

Currently, the whole world is facing yet another crisis in the form of COVID-19, it has impacted all of us in unprecedented ways. It has had a crippling effect on Rumah Sanur—we are no longer able to hold our programs, events, conferences, workshops and concerts—which have been our core business and which we rely on to operate.

Rumah Sanur has never been about making money, in fact, the founders have invested their own money and while our staff got paid the senior management team have never taken a wage. Why have we done this? Because we believe in the creativity of Indonesians and that Bali’s communities needed a space like Rumah Sanur to connect with each other and with people from around the world.

So now we are asking for your help. We want to keep the lights on and the doors open these next few months so we can continue to support community efforts like the Bali COVID-19 Community Care, SOS Community Fridge Program and other initiatives assisting people during the COVID-19 crisis.

We want to ensure Ayip’s legacy lives on to inspire creatives and that the vision all the team have had for Rumah Sanur continues. With your help we can ensure Rumah Sanur weathers the next few months and is ready to welcome you back when restrictions ease.
