It’s Monday. Hard to be motivated and energetic. But as Dalai Lama once said: “Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.” How about “one small sultry Twee Pop” instead?

The group, Lola Marsh, is an Israeli band from Tel Aviv. Led by singer Yael Shoshana Cohen and producer/multi instrumentalist Gil Landau, their music combines deep, warm, nostalgic vocals, heart-on-the-sleeve-lyrics and enchanting guitar melodies. As AllMusic put it: “A duo with a haunting sound that’s both earthy and cinematic.”

Formed as a duo in 2013 by Landau and Cohen, three other members joined them shortly after. The band premiered their first single, “Sirens”, via Nylon magazine in March 2015, followed by the second single, “You’re Mine”, in May the same year. It garnered over six million plays on Spotify and landed in the service’s top 3 Most Viral Tracks as well as in the top 3 of Hype Machine’s Most Popular Tracks ranking. Lola Marsh released their first EP, You’re Mine, in January 2016.

The music video here, “Wishing Girl”, taken from their live performance for Paste Magazine in New York, June 2017. “Wishing Girl” is their main single from their debut album, Remember Roses.

They cite Sufjan Stevens, Nina Simone, Fleet Foxes, Elvis, Moody Blues, Bon Iver, MGMT and LCD Soundsystem as major influences on their music.

Hey, don’t you think Yael Cohen is like a majestic mix of indie pop-Penelope Cruz and whimsical-Isabelle Adjani!? 🖤
