Dave Mustaine turned 59th today.

I don’t think I need to explain much about who he is. He’s one of the most important figures in hard and heavy music, true wheels of steel, veteran ballbreaker, the original axeman of ‘tallica. The rest, you can just google it, you lazy mofo.

I consider myself lucky. I saw him with his band, Megadeth, when they played in Jakarta back in 2007.

The music video here via Maximiliano Dominguez, Megadeth performing live “Symphony of Destruction”, in Buenos Aires, 2005. The subtitle, quite disturbing, yeah. But look at the audience, magical excitement!

Happy birthday, thrash metal bossman!

Rudolf Dethu

Music journalist, writer, radio DJ, socio-political activist, creative industry leader, and a qualified librarian, Rudolf Dethu is heavily under the influence of the punk rock philosophy. Often tagged as this country’s version of Malcolm McLaren—or as Rolling Stone Indonesia put it ‘the grand master of music propaganda’—a name based on his successes when managing Bali’s two favourite bands, Superman Is Dead and Navicula, both who have become two of the nation’s biggest rock bands.
