Volts: Fatamorgana

Versi Bahasa Indonesia silakan klik di sini

Here comes Volts, a new pop rock group from Jakarta. Founded in March 2012, this trio has just released their first single called “Fatamorgana” (Mirage). Causing quite a stir, it’s being played quite frequently on national radio and they are regulary invited to join various TV shows.

Fronted by a gutsy young Australian woman (who speaks fluent Indonesian), Lani Leyli, they are supported by a similarly young, but very respectable figure in the local music industry, Kevin Aprilio, who is the producer and released “Fatamorgana” under his label: Aprilio Kingdom.

They plan to release another two singles shortly, and a full-length album next year. Stay connected with Volts by following them on Twitter @VOLTS_Indonesia and join their Facebook page: VOLTS.band

The Mix Ape I

“These songs were picked just to suit the momentum on the mixtape. And the only reason I picked “Pengabdi Setan” for the intro & outro of the mix because it was one the most scariest Indonesian movie during the 80′s.”

Homegrown & Well Known: RAI BANGSAWAN

Bali coffee has perhaps not yet quite received the respect it deserves. Very few people aware of how unique and distinctive Bali coffee is—to drink imported coffee is considered much cooler. Rai Bangsawan is making people understand better about our coffee culture, based on local wisdom.

This is not about nationalism. This is about a guy who believes that Bali coffee is in many ways superior to imported coffee.

Domestic Groove: ADE DARMAWAN

DOMESTIC GROOVE ~ Celeb’s Chosen Nine is my biweekly column in The Beat (Jakarta) mag. Basically it’s an interview via e-mail which focuses on small, intimate, domestic stuff; what Indonesia’s public figures are really into.

For the 39th edition I went upclose-and-personal with Ade Darmawan.

Adib Hidayat: Bromancing the Stone

Selamat menikmati.

Homegrown & Well Known: ANOM DARSANA

When a stranger gives you a difficult 2-in-1 task: “I need a local guy who understands about international-standard sound recording and is also able to organize sophisticated music concerts,” no need to be panic, just say this name: Anom Darsana.

Video: Echocell at The Hollywood Palladium

This video is actually quite old, uploaded to YouTube in early 2007. But I think it’s still worth checking out. I especially like the glam chic feeling that comes out of this concert. Oh, the singer, Belinda Kazanci, is a good friend of mine, too. She’s a great songstress. And knows how to dance. (And a talented fashion designer as well.)
